![]() FUNDAMENTAL CONGREGATION FIRMLY ANCHORED IN THE THREE PILARS OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH: GRACE ALONE; FAITH ALONE; SCRIPTURE ALONE. Messiah’s vision is to be(outward focused) life-giving water to the greater Raleigh community by serving the needs of the multi-diverse groups youth and adults by providing quality educational events/workshops, ESL, advocacy events, soccer events, and a care network. We believe strongly in the Word of God. We believe that the church is people - not buildings or programs. Our servant leadership is largely carried out by laypersons, not paid staff, for the work of the church. Our ministries are blessed and dependent on the leading and power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God - not human effort. We are committed to making disciples. We are committed to a global mission. We are committed to an inclusionary church -- not an exclusionary one. We are a giving church. We are a congregation in the Lutheran heritage. Prayer Requests for the week beginning July 17 Give thanks for President and Mrs. Bush's participation in the meaningful and God-centered funeral services for former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, held July 17 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on the campus of Catholic University. Snow died of colon cancer July 12. President Bush spoke of Tony Snow's great joy of living and his strong Christian faith: "Tony Snow has left the City of Washington for the City of God. May he find eternal rest in the arms of his Savior. And may the Author of all creation watch over his family and all those who loved him, admired him, and will always cherish his memory." Pray for his loved ones to have God's comfort and strength from the heart of God. Peace be to his memory. Pray for President Bush as he welcomes to the White House President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci of the Republic of Kosovo on July 21 during their first visit to the United States as leaders of an independent Kosovo. The leaders will discuss our strong support for the efforts of the Kosovo government to build a democratic, prosperous, multiethnic state with institutions that serve all of Kosovo's citizens. Pray for President Bush as he seeks to work with other leaders to bring relief to the gas price situation in our country following his decision to lift the executive prohibition on exploration for oil in the Outer Continental Shelf to allow for increased domestic oil exploration and production if Congress also lifts its ban. Pray for wisdom and resourcefulness in the development of new conservation technologies. Pray for all Americans who now struggle due to the downturn in the economy, asking God to strengthen them with His grace. Pray for our leaders who seek solutions. Pray for the members of Congress as they push forward in the weeks remaining before their summer recess, asking God to grant them wisdom and initiative on a variety of concerns including a gas prices bill, consumer product safety legislation, a measure addressing the spread of AIDS in Africa and legislation extending energy production tax incentives. Pray for a spirit of cooperation as solutions are sought. Give thanks that faith and belief in God continue to be lifted at key points of interest in the election process. Pray for all citizens to remain engaged in the election process with prayerfulness and diligence. Pray for our brave military men and women as they serve the causes of freedom and liberty in challenging, potentially harmful settings, asking God to safeguard each one with His care. Pray for their families who sacrifice to enable them to serve, and pray for those who have lost loved ones, that they may know the comfort and encouragement of Jesus Christ.
